Why Join NAIS?

Our mission is to empower independent schools and the students they serve. We put this into practice by ensuring you have full access to a plethora of resources, publications, professional development opportunities, and forums that keep you at the forefront of our industry. You’ll also belong to a vibrant community of educators and administrators for networking, idea sharing, and professional growth.

Who is Part of the NAIS Community?

The NAIS community is made up of more than 1,800 member and subscriber school from around the world, as well as associations that serve the education community. More than 1,500 of these schools – of all types and sizes – are NAIS members, non-profit, private, independent schools, located in the United States.

Which Category is the Right for You?

School membership​​
Any school may choose to be an NAIS member if it is a nonprofit school located in the U.S., serving children in any grades from pre-kindergarten through grade 13, governed by an independent board of trustees, accredited by an NAIS-recognized organization, in compliance with state and federal antidiscrimination laws, and agrees in spirit to the NAIS Principles of Good Practice.
NAIS subscriptions​
Any school that does not meet the requirements for NAIS membership may choose to be an NAIS subscriber. We offer two levels of subscription.​
NAIS supporter program
Any organization or non-profit committed to serving the independent school community may choose to be an NAIS supporter.​
Association membership​
Any local, state, and regional associations of independent schools, as well as other associations that aim to serve and strengthen independent schools, may choose to be an association member. ​
