Why Outdoor Education Is So Important: Four School Examples to Draw From
Tuesday April 18, 3:15 pm ET
Whether you’re an urban, suburban or rural school, critical opportunities exist to connect your students to nature and offer outdoor education and learning that fosters a deep appreciation of the natural world and reaffirms our capacity to respect and protect all living things and wild places. In this webinar we will hear from four NAIS schools that are exposing students from pre-K through 12th grade to wilderness experiences, outdoor classrooms, outdoor leadership training and planting in a greenhouse. Participants will come away from this online professional development event with a better understanding of the varieties and benefits of outdoor education, and some strategies for improving such offerings at your school.
International Student Enrollment Management: 10 Considerations for Schools With New or Established International Student Programs
Tuesday, April 25, 3:00 pm ET
There has been a significant increase of international students studying in the United States in primary or secondary school programs over the past ten years. There has been a parallel increase in schools that have recently started or will soon begin international student programs. This webinar will discuss several considerations for schools when building structures to support and ensure international student success. Participants will leave with a set of discussion questions they should consider at the administrative and board levels, additional logistics, structures and staffing needs international students might require, and how a student focused perspective might change your school more than you originally thought. This issue is key for both young international student programs and schools with long established programs, all are welcome to join the discussion.
This webinar is part of the NAIS Global Ambassadors Advisory Working Group series for 2016-2017.
Supporting Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Students: The Basics on How to Begin
Tuesday, May 10, 2:00 pm ET
Our final webinar in our series on transgender students focuses on the practical steps and nuts and bolts decisions schools must make in order to set a plan in motion.
Increasingly, schools have had transgender and gender non-conforming students come out and transition at school (or arrive at school already transitioned and out). It can be tempting to address these students on a case-by-case basis. But it is much more powerful and effective for a school to develop policy, guidelines, and best practices around transgender and gender non-conforming students in order to be consistent, fair, and to create meaningful change in culture for all students. This interactive presentation will guide educators through the basics of what to expect and how to create change.
