07/17/2024 Other Policy, Politics, Students America in One Room: The Youth Vote
Close Up, the Deliberative Democracy Lab at Stanford University (DDL), Helena, and the Generation Lab will bring together a nationally representative and scientific sample of 500 first-time voters from across the country to deliberate key policy issues facing the nation. Over the course of four days, students will consider key policy issues facing the country; eeliberate in small groups in a thoughtful, civil, and substantive fashion; have town hall discussions with balanced groups of policy experts; complete pre- and post-event surveys on policy attitudes and views on key civic health indicators; and return home as Civic Ambassadors equipped to hold their own deliberations and gather data on youth perspectives nationwide. In addition to the student in-person participants (deadline to apply for the in-person program is April 26, 2024), there will be opportunities for students to participate virtually, and also volunteer opportunities for adults.

The Classroom Educator/Associate Part 1 Level coursework meets the requirements for the Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator designation with the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA), as well as Part 1 of the Associate Level. It is the first step in preparing educators to use the OG approach in both the classroom setting as well as 1:1. Teachers will use direct instruction to bring a multi-sensory, structured, and linguistic phonics-based approach into the mainstream classroom and tiered support settings.
