Help Earthquake Survivors in Haiti

January 10, 2010

NAIS member schools have inquired how they can help victims of the earthquake in Haiti.  These are some resources we've compiled.

The State Dept has set up a hotline for Americans to inquire after family in Haiti: 888-407-4747. They also announced a way to send donations via cellphone: text "HAITI" to "90999" and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cellphone bill.

Chris Bigenho, director of educational technology at the Greenhill School (Texas) has created this Netvibes page collecting information updates about the Haiti earthquake.  Chris writes:

Having lived through the Northridge, CA earthquake and the Sylmar, CA earthquake years before that, I can only imagine what the people of Haiti must be experiencing. With all of the infrastructure and earthquake building codes in CA, we still had a tremendous disruption, communication failures and chaos. What it must be like in the poorest country in the western hemisphere…

While not elegant, I did put together a quick mashup of social media sites pulled together through a public Netvibes page. Feel free to join the Diigo group and add information and resources for the Diigo group. If I get a chance, I will add additional resources.
