People, Planet, Purpose: Leading the Way to a Sustainable Future
All leaders of independent education around the world who are committed to developing global citizens are invited to attend the second NAIS Global Education Summit. Exchange with your colleagues about steps schools can take to be more globally sustainable in curriculum and operations. The Summit will lead off with challenging keynote addresses by Mary Robinson and Hafsat Abiola. After a morning of discussions and presentations by Abiola and Robinson, GES concludes with participation in one of the Annual Conference three-hour workshops. Hafsat Abiola Hafsat Abiola, an alumna of Philips Academy Andover, is a young activist who works to promote women, youth, and democracy in her home country of Nigeria and around the world. She is a founding member of several initiatives including Global Youth Connect, Youth Employment Campaign, and Vital Voices: Women in Democracy. Hafsat is the author of many articles and serves as assistant editor of Imagining Ourselves, an international anthology of women. She is the Executive Director of the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy (KIND), an NGO that seeks to empower democracy and development in Nigeria by strengthening and creating initiatives that advance women. KIND’s program Kudra offers leadership training to 750 young women across Nigeria each year. Hafsat was selected as a Global Leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum in 2001 and as an Ashoka Fellow in 2003.
Mary Robinson
Mary Robinson, the first woman President of Ireland and formerly the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, now chairs the Council of Women World Leaders and is President of Realizing Rights: The Ethical Globalization Initiative.
