 Equity and Justice
This page was created as a resource for member schools, associations, and diversity professionals. Visitors to this site will not only have access to resources but also will gain an understanding of NAIS's overall focus on diversity, multiculturalism, equity, and justice. 2009 State of Diversity Practice Survey and Report NEW In the spring of 2009 NAIS conducted a nationwide survey of diversity practitioners in independent schools. This first-time-ever survey of diversity practitioners offers important data that will be used to develop initiatives to support diversity leadership and practice for member schools. The results of this extensive survey are included in this PowerPoint presentation. We welcome any program recommendations and reactions to the State of Diversity Practice Survey Report. Equity in Action This section provides educators with a framework for creating community out of diversity, examples of diversity mission statements and strategic diversity plans implemented by other schools, and statistics on NAIS member school demographics. The Diversity Practitioner This section offers important information for your school's diversity practitioners and allies, including best practice examples of curriculum that member schools have implemented and found successful, diversity job titles and descriptions, and additional professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and students. Diversity Resources Look in this section for indispensable resources on socioeconomic class, public/private partnerships that focus on furthering diversity, and LGBT case studies. Student Voices Student buy in and ownership of any diversity initiative is critical to its success. Here you will find a collection of documents developed by student diversity practitioners. Assessment of Inclusivity and Multiculturalism (AIM) AIM is a comprehensive instrument designed to evaluate diversity, multiculturalism, and equity and justice in independent schools. It is also designed to assist in strategic planning initiatives to build and sustain inclusive learning communities. AIM builds on the now retired Multicultural Assessment Plan (MAP), with an expansive meaning and use of the cultural identifiers and elements of school culture. |
