The Consultant Option

If your family needs help assessing your child’s needs, sorting through the many types of schools available, and navigating the admissions process, you may want to consider hiring an educational consultant.  Through the NAIS website, you can connect with an educational search consultant from the Independent Educational Consultant Association (IECA) for a 40-minute introductory counseling session.  IECA member consultants have met IECA’s required qualifications: a master’s degree; at least three years of admissions counseling experience; experience working with scores of students; and extensive campus visits--IECA members, on average, have visited over 150 campuses each.  During the 40-minute introductory counseling session, an educational search consultant will cover and/or provide the following:

  • clarification of terms relating to private schools
  • why and for whom private schools are considered
  • how to gauge whether private school is right for your child
  • general advice regarding the search and admissions process
  • discussion of the independent school application calendar/timeline
  • an understanding of the range of independent schools and what sort of student each serves
  • benefits/disadvantages of private schooling
  • an understanding of school admission testing, interviews and campus visits
  • how to self explore the customer's child's talents and needs (educational, social, etc.)
  • a list of resources to consult and organizations to consider in working to find the best match for the customer's child

The cost for this introductory session is $140.  To purchase a session through the NAIS website, click here.  To learn more about IECA, go to http://www.educationalconsulting.org
