Global Education

The NAIS Global Initiative's Objective, as part of NAIS's larger sustainability initiative, is to assist independent schools in their efforts to nurture the skills and perspectives that help students become global citizens and global leaders, and to assist schools and their students in making contributions across borders.

To assist NAIS member schools in their quest for a more global future for their students, NAIS will nurture partnerships and provide resources within an international framework.

SCHOOLS OF THE FUTURE, VIRTUAL SCIENCE FAIR AND TEACHERS OF THE FUTURE

  • Schools of the Future
In 2007, NAIS launched the Schools of the Future initiative to establish NAIS as the forum for conversations about schools of the future.  In support of this goal, NAIS continues to:
    • Promote initiatives in equity and justice, global perspectives, and educational technology so that these elements have an even greater profile in schools of the future.
    • Research new approaches and develop capacity to access best thinking and practices.
    • Project and predict new ways of teaching and learning.
    • Capitalize on new technology for teaching, learning, and communicating in the digital commons.
    • Seek out partnerships for experimentation in the arena of the schools of the future.

  • Virtual Science Fair:
In this unique forum, middle school teams of 1-3 students, research a topic of interest within the sciences. What makes this science fair different from the rest? With the aid of an e-mentor, these students compete locally and nationally with other NAIS-member schools from around the country using a virtual platform. Combining student engagement in the sciences with modern technology and professional guidance, this project is an exciting journey into the world of virtual science fairs.

  • Teachers of the Future:
This program provides selected teachers a way to distinguish themselves as leaders. They can advance independent school education by spurring discussion and idea-sharing about innovation in teaching and learning.

    Each selected teacher:

    • leads an NAIS online educational discussion forum throughout the school year, and
    • creates a demonstration teaching unit video (three to 10 minutes in length) to be posted on NAIS's online independent school community and/or TeacherTube.
