Is it time for your school to change your approach? How do your students and/or staff who are currently learning or working virtually feel about returning to your school in person? Get answers to these and other key questions with NAIS’s COVID-19 surveys for families and faculty/staff. As an NAIS member, each survey and its standard report of your results are available at no cost to your school. You can use the surveys through December 31, 2020. How to Conduct Your Parent and/or Staff Satisfaction Survey
If you are a head of school or business officer at an NAIS member school, the links for both the parent survey and faculty/staff survey have been emailed to you under the subject header "COVID Satisfaction Surveys – Don’t Make Decisions in the Dark". If you have not received this message and meet the criteria above, please reach out to us.
Send the appropriate survey link to your school’s families and/or staff. We’ve included sample messages below you can use or modify. Be sure to fill in the survey “close” date of your choice and before December 31, 2020. (If you want to survey your parents and/or staff after that time, we’ll have another version of this survey for you.)
After the close date, follow these instructions to pull your school’s report:
- Log in to dasl.nais.org.
- Hover over “Browse Reports” and click “School Survey Reports.”
- Click the page icon to the right of your school’s Parent Survey and/or Staff Survey to download your reports.
- Heads of school and business officers will automatically have access to the report. If you want others from your school to download the report, use the “user permissions” tool in the “admin menu” to add access to their DASL accounts.

Below is a sample message that can be used to share either survey with your community. Feel free to modify the text or to write your own message to share your parent or staff survey.
Dear [SCHOOL FAMILY/STAFF NAME],
The new school year has begun, and we know you are navigating this semester in the context of COVID-19. We know you are balancing so much, and we hope you will take some time to let us know how we’re doing and how COVID-19 has affected your experience as a part of our school community.
Please complete a short survey [INSERT LINK TO EITHER PARENT OR STAFF SURVEY] by [INSERT A CLOSING DATE OF YOUR CHOICE] to help us understand your experience right now.
The survey, hosted on the website of the National Association of Independent Schools, will only take about 5 minutes to complete. Your responses will help us improve the way we deliver programming and communicate with our community.
