Pacific Buddhist Academy
Pacific Buddhist Academy (PBA) is an independent, co-educational, college preparatory day school. Opened in 2003 with an initial endowment from the Kyoto headquarters of the Shin Buddhist church, the school’s mission is to graduate young people ready to contribute meaningfully to world affairs by developing their skills in leadership; to train students’ intellect to become mindful of the interdependence of all beings; and to test their spirits in order to build the courage to nurture peace in themselves, their communities, and the world. PBA is located on the temple grounds of the Honpa Hongwanji of Hawaii, headquarters of the state’s Shin Buddhists; the temple campus itself is set in the multi-ethnic urban center of Honolulu. Students in the school represent a socio-economic, intellectual, and ethnic cross-section of the island of O’ahu.
