About the Event

This meetup is part of the 2025-2026 NAIS Global Webinar and Meetup Series.

Join us at this free, one-hour meetup to discuss topics of interest in breakout groups with colleagues from other NAIS schools. This meetup is for independent and international schools in the U.S. and other countries. We invite all teachers and global education practitioners interested in these topics to attend.

There will be two breakout groups discussing the following questions:

Breakout Group 1: The Current Landscape of Global Travel

  • How is your school positioning global travel in a time of uncertainty and increasing travel risks?
  • What are the risks and challenges you have encountered in global travel in the past and what is your school’s protocol for mitigating risk going forward?
  • Does your school advise international students against traveling internationally for global programs this school year?
  • Are parents embracing global travel this year or have you seen less interest?
  • Discuss other topics relevant to your school and your role.

Breakout Group 2: Intercultural Learning Through Modern Languages

  • When you think about your role as a modern language teacher, how do you define intercultural competence?
  • What strategies do you use to help students recognize their own cultural assumptions while learning another language?
  • What do students learn about empathy, belonging, or dignity through language learning that they might not learn elsewhere?
  • How does language study help students engage with differences with curiosity rather than judgment?
  • Discuss any other pressing topics related to intercultural learning and modern languages.
