About the Event

Allegations of student-on-student sexual misconduct present some of the most challenging legal, operational, and reputational issues independent schools face.  These situations require a prompt, thoughtful response informed by evolving legal standards, student safety considerations, and reputational risk. Schools can take meaningful steps in advance to prepare for and manage these matters through employee training, clear policies, and a reasonable, well-structured investigation process.  This webinar, presented by Justin Perillo, NAIS general counsel, and Michael Blacher, partner at Liebert Cassidy Whitmore, will address key legal considerations, including mandatory reporting obligations and the limited circumstances in which Title IX may be implicated. The session also will explore the use of internal vs. external investigators, interim measures, working effectively with insurers, and communications within and outside the school community. Participants will leave with concrete takeaways to strengthen preparedness, reduce risk, and respond thoughtfully when allegations arise.
