The Independent School Health Check (ISHC) report highlights the results of the ISHC survey of high school students at independent schools, providing schools with a benchmark against which they can better understand how their students are doing compared to past years.
In 2024–2025, high school students at independent schools continued to receive high grades and feel positively about their school. Students were also very self-motivated, reporting that they wanted to try their best and fulfill their own sense of accomplishment. Students described having positive relationships with their teachers. Most indicated that the pressure to succeed academically came from within rather than from parents or teachers: They enjoyed achieving success and challenging themselves.
Independent high school students also reported feeling healthier and happier in 2024–2025 than in previous years. They were more likely to enjoy life, like themselves the way they were, and have lots of energy. Students were also less likely to report negative feelings. Overall, students seem to have better mental health in 2024–2025 than in previous years.
