Meridian Academy mentors a diverse group of students to pose and investigate original questions, work collaboratively, and communicate clearly and creatively. Through these efforts, we foster community, act with integrity and perseverance, and find delight and wonder in understanding and improving our world. Our Values Social Justice Meridian students, faculty, and families reflect a diversity of backgrounds, beliefs, and identities, making it possible for all members of the school to thrive and for the school to serve the broader community. Meridian’s commitment to equity, antiracism, and economic accessibility is foundational to our values, actions, and design providing a space for young people to be their authentic selves along with the freedom to change who they are. Connections and Perspectives Creative learning and problem-solving involve the making of novel connections across different fields. To facilitate these insights, Meridian’s curriculum is interdisciplinary with core subjects taught together and themes drawn from cultures around the globe. Our courses highlight the importance of understanding different perspectives, acknowledging complexity, and embracing nuance. Growth and Agency Meridian students embrace responsibilities that foster their independence and accountability. We cultivate academic, social, and emotional growth through wholehearted inquiry and personal reflection. We encourage students to enthusiastically pursue their own interests, to propose new directions for our community, and to become more adaptable, resilient, and open to new experiences The Power of Small Communities Meridian is small by design and grounded in research about how young people learn and develop. A small community ensures that everyone in the school is known as a learner and as a person. Everyone participates in shared decision-making, which promotes trust, courage, honesty, and compassion. The opportunity for teachers and students to work together for multiple years leads to powerful mentoring and strong, joyful community bonds.
