NAIS institutes are grounded in best practices in adult learning and provide our members with intensive training and peer networks that will educate and sustain both the individual and the school community.

Inclusive Schools Network Institute 

June 13-16 and June 23, 2022; Online

NAIS is partnering with Gender Spectrum, a national leader in creating gender sensitive and positively responsive environments for all children and teens, to present the Inclusive Schools Network Institute (ISNI). This institute, customized for the unique needs of independent schools, students, families, and communities, will be the gateway to Gender Spectrum’s national community of practice.

Diversity Leadership Institute 

June 26-July 1, 2022; Episcopal High School, Alexandria, VA

The Diversity Leadership Institute (DLI) is an intensive program that provides you with the tools to lead and manage change in your school. DLI helps equip educators to meet today’s challenges and opportunities in an engaged and trusted community of practice.

Institute for New Heads

July 11-16, 2022; Emory Conference Center, Atlanta, GA (followed by online programming through July 2023)

The Institute for New Heads (INH) is a program for individuals starting their first or second year of headship. You’ll build a strong peer and mentor network, acquire an understanding of the essential tasks of headship, and return to school supported by a toolkit of valuable resources.

Equity Design Lab

July 13-15, 2022; University School, Nashville, TN

The Equity Design Lab (EDL) is a leadership and professional development experience that encourages participant use and sharing of design principles, action research, collaborative skill-building, and best and emerging practices. The goal is to develop innovative solutions and models that independent schools can use to address challenges and opportunities related to equity and social justice inside and out of the classroom.

School Leadership Institute

July 26-29, 2022; Episcopal High School, Alexandria, VA

The School Leadership Institute (SLI) is an in-depth residential program that will help you cultivate an individualized professional development strategy based on your strengths and areas for improvement. Each attendee will leave this highly interactive program with a unique plan based on proven techniques.

Leadership Through Partnership 

October 7-9, 2022; Westin City Center, Washington, DC

The Leadership Through Partnership (LTP) workshop provides your school’s head and board leader(s) the chance to collaborate and strengthen their partnership. Away from busy day-to-day life, they can identify shared goals for their school. Together they learn more about the challenges that their school—and the independent school community—are facing.


All participants are welcome to participate in NAIS programs. NAIS has an institutional commitment to the principles of diversity.
