School News: Currey Ingram Academy Opening Boarding Program

Spring 2020

Each year, about 10 families relocate to Brentwood, Tennessee, so their children can attend Currey Ingram Academy (TN). They move there because they’re looking for a school to support their children’s learning differences, such as dyslexia, ADHD, processing speed, working memory, or executive function deficits.

When the school moved to its current campus on 83 acres in 2002, the increased space led to board of trustees discussions about starting a boarding program. In 2015, the board hired a consultant to do a feasibility study and found high interest for a boarding program in the South for students with learning differences. These results drove the school to launch a capital campaign two years ago to fully fund the construction of the residence hall, which will accommodate 32 ninth through 12th graders (and four residential life staff members) when it opens in August 2020.

The boarding program will continue the mission of the day school program by supporting and empowering students with learning differences to achieve their fullest potential while also extending academic support throughout the evening and weekends, fostering independence and responsibility necessary for a successful transition to college and beyond, offering pragmatic and executive function skill development, and enhancing social-emotional learning by encouraging participation in the residential life community.
