School News: New Center to Help Students Become Global Citizens

Winter 2019

Helping students become global citizens is a priority at many independent schools. In that vein, Fort Worth Country Day (TX) has launched the Center for International Studies, which will be the home base for all of the school’s international initiatives, including its overseas summer expeditions, exchange opportunities, cultural programs, and international professional development.

“We are seeking to consolidate and expand on our long-term commitment to creating ‘world ready’ global citizens,” says Eric Lombardi, head of school. “We are committed to sending our students ‘beyond the berm’ that surrounds our campus to other communities; such as Pine Ridge reservation, a school in Ávila, Spain, one of many Fort Worth Sister Cities; or other distant lands.”

During the summer, Fort Worth Country Day offers various excursions to Europe, Australia, South America, and Asia. It also hosts international students during the school year. The Center for International Studies will focus on creating authentic experiences for all K–12 students that foster global competency, fulfill the school’s mission, and expose students to cultural differences.
